Dispatch from Mars: I Know What You Did Last Summer
Check out FilAm Jam IRL the OC Zine Fest this Saturday in Anaheim. Then, next Saturday, it's the Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture in San Pedro.
I don’t know where summer went, no really, how is it September already? But here we are, first the good news - our FilAm Jam Spring/Summer issue is out. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this issue: Hana of Filipinta Beauty for the cover, all the writers and illustrators inside, Anna for laying out the issue - my Canva layouts left much to be desired. And our printer, Orange Minuteman Press.
You can check out the issue on Issuu.
Or grab an actual copy at the OC Zine Fest on Saturday, Septmber 7th at the Anaheim Main Library. I was super stoked to be chosen to be part of this festival.
Next, it’s the last week to see Filipino California: Art and the Filipino Diaspora at the Forest Lawn Museum in LA… I went with my 80 year old artist uncle, Rodolfo Samonte, and it was cool to view the exhibit with him…
We even bumped into one of the artists who were exhibiting, Eliseo Art Silva, who is most known for painting the mura, Gintong Kasaysayan, Gintong Pamana (Filipino Americans: A Glorious History, A Golden Legacy” at Unidad Park and designing the Gateway at Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles.
Last but not least, I actually know where September went - it went into countless volunteer hours for FILAMARTS as we prepare for the 30th Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC). The event is free and open to the public. We’ve planned quite the festival - live music, cultural performances, delicious Filipino food, and lots of vendors.
