God Will Do The Rest
Watch Nicholas Pilapil's latest play in LA. Last two shows this weekend!

This is what I ate at Smorgasburg, the afternoon I met up with friends before heading to the Latino Theatre Company to see Artists at Play's "God Will Do The Rest." It is the story about a multigenerational Filipino American household and it is written by Nicholas Pilapi (also a FilAm Jam contributing writer!)
I didn't know what to expect but I had heard only good things. So for the next hour and 45 minutes or so, I sat in the jam-packed audience and witnessed a typical Pinoy family going through things, with a dash of drama and lots of laughs. While the nurse, rice cooker and Santo Nino jokes clearly let us know that this is a Filipino-American family, we also realize that this could be the story of any immigrant family, experiencing life in America, and figuring out inter-generational relationships.
According to playwright Nicholas Pilapil, “Each of the characters has to navigate balancing their lives with love and duty to family. Like most immigrants, Filipinos come to this country looking for a better life — but sometimes they have other, unspoken reasons. It’s not part of our culture to talk openly about things. I wanted to paint a picture of what life could be like if a family threw everything on the table, no holds barred.”
“God Will Do the Rest” was a thoughtful, funny and moving play, wonderfully acted, beautifully written by Nicholas Pilapil and deftly directed by Fran De Leon. I especially enjoyed the music that played in between scenes.
Do yourself a favor and watch this play, it’s the last weekend. Bring tissues.
